Supervisory Visit to Nerica Rural Roads

On the 20th of May, 2011, a supervisory team comprising Mr. A.O.Osiyoye ( Desk officer), Mr. D.O. Onigbinde( M.& E. Officer) and Mr. B.O.Abiodun (OGADEP's Director of Technical Services) paid a monitoring/supervisory visit to three(3) of the Nerica Rural Feeder Roads. The Roads visited were

Ako-Onigbagbo-Matoole
Ago-Iwoye- Okenugbo
Idofe- Falafonmu-Odosapo-Imope
At  Ago-Iwoye-Okenugbo, the team conversed with two(2) of the engineers of the contracting firm(ie Tundis Nig. Ltd). The engineers expressed their fear as regards the probable damage that could be done to the road during this raining season.

Visit by ADB Finanacial Management & Disbursement Mission


A team on Financial Management & Disbursement Mission arrived Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria on
 the 11th of May, 2011.e. The team comprised the following:

2. Akpem Beyuo-Principal Disbursement Officer
3. U. G. Mohammed-Disbursement Officer
4. Dr. L.S.Daura- National Project Coordinator, MNRDP Abuja.Nigeria
5. Mrs. G.O.Usman - Project Accountant, MNRDP Abuja. Nigeria
6. Adeoye Adekunle - Procurement Officer, MNRDP Abuja. Nigeria
7. Mrs. Benjamin Dominica-Fed. Min. of Finance, Abuja. Nigeria

On the 12th of May, 2011 the team was formally and officially welcomed by the the State Desk office of the Multinational Nerica Rice Dissemination Project.
A meeting was  held at the Board Room of  Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP). The meeting was chaired by Mr.I.O.Phillips ( Programme Manager, OGADEP), and anchored by Mr.A.O.Osiyoye ( Desk officer, Ogun State MNRDP).
Also at the meeting were Mr. D.O.Onigbinde ( M.& E. Officer, Ogun State MNRDP), Mr.T.O.Odunoye (Accountant, Ogun State MNRDP), Pastor Bode Adenekan ( RIFAN Chairman, Ogun State Chapter)  and Mr.J.O. Israel (Ultimate Food Nig.Ltd ie Marketing Firm).
The meeting commenced with the introduction of the visiting team to OGADEP Programme Manager by the Desk officer. He also introduced individual member of MNRDP Abuja & Ogun Desk office, while Mr. U.G.Mohammed of AfDB introduced the AfDB officials and the representive of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The AfDB team briefed the Desk office on the purpose of the mission, which among others,included evaluating the acievements of Ogun State MNRDP Desk office and its financial performances.
Mr.A.O.Osiyoye then elucidated  the achievements of Ogun State Desk office with a Power Point Presentation.
Also, the Ogun State MNRDP Blog that was created by the M.& E. officer for publishing activities of the Desk office on internet was introduced to the team.
Many questions were asked by the team members, among which was the timeliness in the release of fund from MNRDP Abuja to the State Desk office.
Also RIFAN Chairman and the Marketer were asked to comment on the acceptability of Nerica Rice.
The chairman started with a general comment that no Project impacted possitively on the life of farmers as MNRDP. While he affirmed the goog attributes of Nerica Rice, he however opined that Nerica-8 is better than Nerica-1 because it ressembles Ofada Rice which is popular in the South-West of Nigeria.He advocated for the release of Nerica-8 variety.
On the other hand, Mr.Israel opined that Ofada is a premium Rice due to its high price, while Nerica is cheap, avoidable,and is being consumed by all people in all the 6 geo-polical zones of Nigeria.  Mr.Israel believed that Nerica has a great prospect.
After all discussion, the meeting at the Boad Room was rounded-off. The team moved to the Desk office for inter-personal
discussions with officers at Ogun State Desk office.
Mr.T.O.Odunoye was interrogated, and his accounting books & vouchers examined, with clarifications made when demanded.
The team which was prepared for field visit to Nerica Rural Road was contrained by time and bad weather condition.
The team left Ogun state in the evening of  12th May, 2011
